Hi, Greg -

Not yet ... still waiting for a CA budget ... and for the Referees to return to work. I've given up phoning in favor of checking the California Bureau of Automotive Repair website for status.

Thanks for checking in on me ... I'll certainly post when I have an update!

Ok,

We were told that during the interim all a chrysler converted coach owner has to do is:

1. If the coach has been registered in another state
2. Has current registration in another state.
3. Have a CA Hwy Patrol do a VIN, registration and SAFETY check.

You may then proceed to the emissions testing and register/ title the vehicle.

This came from CA BAR after finding the correct office. HWY Patrol knows about this. Emission centers do not.

Greg -

Oh, cool! Thanks for the great suggestion. I'll try it next weekend.

I spoke with the Temecula branch of CA Hwy Patrol re: VIN, registration and safety check. They said, "No can do ... must meet with the BAR." However -- they also suggested that a budget had been signed today and that CA workers should be returning to their jobs over the next few days.

Update: Have an appointment with the Referee

Unread postby rhonda » Tue Dec 02, 2008 4:23 pm

I finally have an appointment with the referee: Friday, 12/12! This is apparently the last day they are accepting appointments for 2008 ... so I hope it goes through smoothly!

HI, If it was mine I would first do as the I was instructed and go to "Any test center" Forget the webpage as I am sure you are not required to even have a computer to get the job done but I may be wrong on this.

Alan,

Thanks -- I did take it to "any test center" in early August. The test center immediately directed me to a referee. :(

IT PASSED!

Unread postby rhonda » Fri Dec 12, 2008 5:14 pm

It PASSED! It PASSED! (get the idea??)

I'm both thrilled and relieved. There was one rough moment when the ref came to me saying, "Before I fail it ... I'll ask you something ... you may not know." He couldn't find the [Check Engine] indicator on the Dakota Digital Dash. I described the indicator (drew a quick picture) and promised I could find the description in the documentation we left on his desk (page 8 of the Digital Dash manual, to be exact). He went back out ... and a few moments later suggested that it was rather non-standard, wouldn't be recognized by guys in the field and suggested I label it using a label-maker. Will do!

I now have a BAR sticker inside the hood, my certificate has been sent to Sacramento ... and I only need one more trip to the DMV to finalize the paperwork. YEAH!!!!

It's mine, finally mine!

Well Rhonda all I can say it doesn't take a lot to make you really happy.

In all seriousness, I am very happy to hear that after all your problems you are all legal and you can enjoy your conversion FINALLY! I know you was getting very agitated as to be expected, you have something to be happy about.

Merry Christmas!!!!

Hi Rohnda,
I am glad you finally got your inspection finalized finally. Now I am sure that when California inacted their auto inspection requirements that they did not specifically think that their would be idiots down the line who would be giving citizens grief over something that should be cut and dry with no gray areas. I think I would begin looking into any groups that may be out there who are bent on getting rid of idiots in our govenrnment.
There is no good reason people should have to put up with this kind of harassment from govenrnment officials. Most of them wouldn't qualify as a sewer rat!
