Upgrading a 2.1 TD to a 2.2 FI

Calling all LeSharo mechanics and creative customizers. The time has finally come to upgrade Pops 1984 2.1 Turbodiesel engine to a 2.2 fuel injected system. Chris Spencer has agreed to do the work for a handsome fee and the original 2.1 TD engine.
If anyone has done this swap, has theories and knowledgable input about this, please get in touch. I'm trying to set up a basline checklist of parts needed, wiring to be done, generally what you would need to do this swap.
I've been planning this swap and aquiring parts/knowledge for at least 1.5 years, so there are threads on the subject. I'm writing this post in case there are new members with new ideas.
Sometime in May is the initial project start. I will be documenting this engine upgrade and will put the info on the forums when done. Feel free to share this to anyone related to LeSharos and Renaults in general.

Thanks in advance
Dave S

Sounds like a noble task. I've often mused about it myself....
Not sure that it would be actually easier to convert to Renault 2.2 EFI or to convert it to some other engine. The Chrysler conversions seems to be the "quick and dirty one" the many have gone to. I've not heard of a conversion to Renault.
The Renault conversion might be preferable if you are going to be driving around in Europe.

With Margot, my TD LeSharo, I've often though of doing conversions myself... especially when pulling any grade, or trying to maintain freeway speeds.

One of the more unusual would be to do a "soft hybrid" with a 50 hp or so Motor/Generator on the front of the engine (most likely replacing the AC compressor)
Examples:

The next would be a hard EV conversion. The DIY route would be using stuff from a place like EVWest (http://evwest.com) or EV of WA (http://www.electricvehicleswa.com). This would be a classic EV upgrade, and there are lots of info on how best to do that.
What might be even better is take a rear ended Chevy Bolt and use everything in the nose, plus batteries. Everything except the battery is basically one unit.

At at 200 HP, plus more torque then even a diesel, seems to me the ideal drive unit.

Hey Bob,

I've spoken to one person on the forums that has a 2.2 upgrade like I am planning. He is satisfied with it, but unfortunately, the previous owner documented nothing regarding the swap

I think this is another option for the group, so I'll document what Chris and I are doing.

Another quick and fast conversion, is to American Muscle.
Take a one ton van, and do a "frame on body" upgrade.
Here is our "Coconv" with a Ford E350

Do it right, and you could even go 4x4 and still keep it a diesel.
(Like I said before... I've been thinking.... And I already have a one ton 85 Dodge Van. <G>)
