Generator is operational

Unread postby Terry » Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:39 pm

On the 84 today I finished up the generator plumbing, fuel pump and electrical. The initial testing revealed that the genset was leaking fuel at the carb even with 1/2 psi fuel pressure and even while running. I took the carb off and found that the needle valve was working. It held a vacuum and also shut off the fuel when connected. Put it all back together and it no longer drips. So I dunno what really was the problem. Maybe the bowl wasnt seated or sealed right.

The thing runs under load. The choke needs to be at 1/4 to 1/2 in order for it to run smoothly though or it will surge violently with the choke full off. I'm not sure what this tells me. These carburetors are so simple, I dont see any adjustment that would help me with that.

Terry,
Is the generator the original? Do you have a manual?
Check some old posts for info on the gen set.
Hope it helps,
Rick

No no, this genset is the ebay special Chinese Champion brand. It's been sitting in the unit for some time. So I did just read about generator engines with fixed jets; that they need the jet removed and soaked and blown out. I did not do that. So perhaps there is some old gas residue in there. Maybe having it wet now will help alleviate some of that as it soaks in fuel.

Perhaps I should run a gallon of fuel with seafoam treatment using a gravity tank. Of course it is probably quicker to just remove the bowl and jet.
