2.2L conversion for 1984 TD

Unread postby davidscar » Mon Jun 12, 2017 5:35 pm

Hello all,

While Pop isn't ready to pull the trigger on a $15K V-6 conversion, he is thinking about a 2.2L engine swap for his LS.

It seems this is a plug and pray upgrade, but I know nothing about these vehicles is easy.

Douglas W has a LS with this configuration and I have been in touch with him. Has anyone else on the forum performed this swap?

If so, please get in touch with me. Even if you have only upgraded in theory, it would be of help

Thanks as always,

Dave S

We may have a near complete 1986 2.2 engine (w/wiring etc). Owner says we would need fuel pump, fuel filter, some other parts

Does anyone have advice for other parts (in general)?

Hey all,

I bought a 2.2L from Chris Spencer today that will be the base for this conversion. Mucho extra parts, wiring etc.

According to the Guru's, I will need to locate the following parts:

manual transmission flywheel from the 88-89 gas 2.2L with a 5-speed. R 77 007 099 19 is the part number. I am searching for a cross reference number

bellhousing for the 2.2 gas automatic, as it has the TDC (top dead center) sensor. I'll add the part numbers soon

I managed to locate a manual trasmission flywheel from a 1989 Eagle medallion. This seems to be one of the many parts needed for this upgrade.

The next thing that needs to be done is drilling and tapping a hole for the Top Dead Center sensor into the manual transmission bellhousing

Does anyone have a 5-speed transmission bellhouse they would be willing to take pictures and measurements of the location of the top dead sensor mount?

I have a good used 4-speed bellhouse on the way and also a automatic bellhouse I'm being loaned to locate the TDC sensor. By having another bellhouse drilled and ready to go, the upgrade should roll on without having to wait around while I get the original BH machined. Yes, there will be many measurements and pictures made of the process.

I'd appreciate contact from any wiring guru's to help me get the wiring moving along

Thank you,

I have had the manual bellhouse modified to take the TDC sensor. I'll post pictures and some basic measurements later
