Hi John:

Your problem could be - CV universal joints in the front axles, or motor mounts, or exhaust bumping somewhere when the engine torque twists on shifting into drive. It could also be that your engine speed is just too high. Will the "clunk" noise repeatedly happen from reverse to drive... neutral to drive... drive to reverse ???

Your best bet is to pin down the exact cause of the "clunk" by having an assistant create the noise repeatedly while you (or someone else) looks for the clunk in the engine compartment or underneath the vehicle. I can not stress enough that this MUST BE DONE SAFELY. If you are not comfortable doing this inspection, take it to a local shop, explain your problem as fully as possible, and have them locate the trouble.

If you need a transmission mount, I have a good one available for sale. I also have good axle shafts, motor mounts etc. etc.
