Replace my alternator

Unread postby Desertfirst123 » Thu Mar 28, 2013 1:26 pm

89 Lesharo, gas, Bosch

I want to replace my alternator. I have seen messages/notes re 90 amp or 105
amp.
- Should I be indifferent between the 2 or do you guys prefer one?
- What is your experience between new and reman, obviously the price is
different.
- Which one: new or reman would give me more reliable life over the next 50,000
miles?
- Any specific brands you like?

My goal is to bring this coach up to a point where I am not losing too much
sleep over old age part failures. I do understand things break and wear out,
just trying to get the next 50k miles as trouble free as possible. I think my current alternator is a used from a junk yard.

Thanks,

John in Tucson

90 amps should be enough I would think.... but the more amps the
better. Paris Rhone? I think that's the Original manufacturer.... If
you want reliability, go ahead and spend the money, nobody ever
regretted buying the best.

Your alternator is rated at 105 amps and has a hard job of keeping up with all the electrical demand. The best thing to do is have your alternator rebuilt, no fit problems and sized right for the job. The rebuild will cost less than a remanufactered or new, if you can find one. If you check the files, another member has adapted a 125 amp GM alternator with very little modification and has more power to do the job. Look in the file section forthe writeup.

Getting yours rebuilt (since it fits nicely) should be the way to go. I had
mine done for about a $100 by an automotive electric shop. Nice job they
did and it fit. perfectly of course.

my local shop actually had a rebuilt one on the shelf. I walked in and swapped it out. They intended to rebuild mine to replace the one I bought. Ithink it cost more than $100 but no waiting :)
