1987 LeSharo Tail light water leak

Unread postby up_and_runnin » Sun Oct 07, 2018 9:16 pm

I've been trying to find a water leak in the back of my '87, and sealed all the seams, etc. on the roof. I still had a small leak after all that. I traced it to the area at the inboard end of the cavities that the tail lights fit into. When I removed the tail lights, I found that the fiberglass at the end of both cavities toward the center of the motorhome was full of voids and a number of holes all the way through. I wanted to repair the area by grinding it out and filling it with fiberglass resin, but with rain coming, I just brushed on a layer of Dyco 20/20.
As I said, mine is an '87, so if yours is '87 or newer, you may want to check this area to see if you have the same situation.

That is an area where we would use a bit of "pond foam" spray foam.
It's waterproof, and at our local hardware as one of the more recent
improved varieties of good old spray foam for around windows and
doors. It's another option for any who are not eager to do a full
fiberglass repair.
