Distributor o ring.

Unread postby Darrell » Wed Oct 11, 2017 8:07 pm

Is there another o ring or seal on the shaft? New o ring doesn't seem to solve the problem.

Or possibly the PCV valve/system is not functioning properly and that excessive crankcase pressure is present.

No..o ring is only for leak from shaft and head .. if is leaking inside the distributor the inner shaft inside distributor is worn-out, and you need another one..

Ron is right, I have seen this happen on mine. Clean up the pcv lines and oil leaks seem to diminish.

There could be, but doubt it. The distributor is usually a brass bushing system,

I know you guys get tired of explaining things to us non- mechanics, but I do appreciate it. I did a re-do on the o ring and solved the oil leak. But now it runs sough as hell.. I can pull a cylinder off the distributor and it actually runs smoother. Actually I can pull two wires. Did I get this thing 180 out? I thought I was careful but who knows. Will it even start if it is 180 out? Starts right away but is rough. Thought I would ask before I take it out again.

Back to the book. Check to see if you didn't mix up the wires. Normally, the wires are just about the right length to reach the cylinder from the distributor . Possible that when you had the distributor.. out to fix the O ring, you may have got it a little off. Didja swap any of the spark leads around. Back to book, set as directed.in firing order NUMBER ONE CYLINDER IS CLOSEST TO THE COWL. NUMBER FOUR IS CLOSEST TO THE RADIATOR ON THESE ENGINES. Oh, good luck.
