Zero to sixty in a TD Phasar

There must be some statistics available for this topic. I’m planning on making some changes and would like a baseline to see if there is an improvement. I’ve tried to do some searches. But, nothing comes up for me.

I’m excited! I just purchased a Snows water methanol injection system on EBay, for Diesel engines. It will have to Wait until spring , with all the projects that I’m currently working on.

They definitely engineered these to maximize fuel economy in the era of the national 55 mph speed limit, not for performance. It's not a difficult test to do yourself.

As a competitive benchmark, MotorWeek reported that the first wasserboxer Vanagon (1984) was about 3 seconds faster than its predecessor, returning 0-60 mph in 18.2 s:

The water methanol system is installed. The system has room for fine tuning. As a benchmark, the RV climbed a particular hill in our area four seconds faster with the system activated, than without.

Steve/Brigitte - I've wondered about doing the same on my '84 TD, "Margot."

It appears to be one of the safest method of getting a little more out, cooling it down a bit, and lowering emissions. Much safer than playing with more boost.

So, which Water-injection system are you using? How long did it take to install?

Where are you getting the Methanol for it? (It's hard to come by around here. Must be known to the state of California, to be a useful substance.)

Where did you install the injector? Before or after the intercooller?

What triggers it (boost, throttle position, RPM... some combination?
